BC Ferries Yam Fries

Four months, 13 countries, endless love and memories. I cannot believe I’m already writing the last blog of this trip! The time has flown by. This evening we left London for our last flight of the summer, our flight home to Canada. We spent September 2nd similar to how we spent May 2nd - walking around Hampstead Heath and stopping for feast at Ginger and White Café. Goodbye feast at Ginger and White It felt so surreal to be back in London exactly four months after we got here! The seasons had changed, leaves were falling, but the city felt somewhat familiar, comfortable almost.  Fall leaves appearing in Hampstead Heath As we took the tube to the airport I felt nostalgic for our travels already - it’s been such a unique experience.  Waiting for the tube in the new Elizabeth Line station I won’t lie, I teared up a little bit waving goodbye to London from above. Last views of London At least we got some yummy airplane food to soothe our souls… and I’m not even jo...

Kimchi and Cheese Toastie

We’re back in the town of Totnes for a few night before we head to London. So far, we’ve spent our time meandering through town, treating ourselves to little sweets and baked goods.  Walking over the River Dart Today there was a lovely food festival on, right along the river side. We had a wonderful time checking out all the little food stalls full of homemade pickles, preserves, fermented drinks, fresh veggies, and practically anything else you can think of! Food festival on the riverside Eat Festival… my favourite type of festival I was very drawn in by one stand which was selling kimchi and cheese toasties. This was essentially a grilled cheese sandwich with kimchi inside! The spice of the kimchi was perfectly balance by the mild cheese. The perfect kimchi toastie This afternoon, we also took at little walk to explore the town of Totnes a bit more.  Looking down the Main Street The town itself is quite old, with roots in the Roman times, but was mainly expanded in th...

Fish and Chips at Journeys End

I’m more and more in love with Devon and the South Coast of England. Yesterday morning we took a nice long walk to Bantham beach. We meandered through the countryside, enjoying the beautiful rolling hills untill we hit the seaside.  Pedestrian footpath to Bantham Beach Walking through the English countryside Looking out at the tidal river Avon I was blown away by the beach, I truly didn’t expect scenery like this in England. The tide was out, and the sandy beach seemed to go on for miles! We could see all the boats resting on the sand. Boats resting on the sand Low tide at Bantham Beach Plenty of people were surfing and playing in the water… this is a place with true West Coast vibes.  To quench our thirst after the walk, we went to a little Pub called the Sloop for a pint of cider. I had an apple-blackcurrant flavour which just hit the spot.  Refreshing ciders ————— This afternoon, we had lunch at what Liam’s family claim is the “best pub in England”. The Journeys End In...

Apples and Plums

Over the last few days we’ve been enjoying the wonderful fresh air of the Devon countryside. Liam’s extended family have a land here, so we’ve been lucky enough to stay with them for a few days.  Beautiful sunny countryside Our days have been filled with reading, walking through fields, and enjoying the sunshine. Oh, and of course I have been greatly enjoying all the sheep and cows.  My new best friend So many cute sheep! A beautiful cow Before we got to the countryside , we spent a few days in Totnes, a small town on the river Dart. This is such a lovely little place with a beautiful river walkway and lots of quaint colourful houses.  Long walkway by the River Dart Walking through colourful streets I was stuck by how similar the people in this part of the UK are to those on the West Coast of BC. It almost feels like we’re back home with the same small artisanal markets run by people with big smiles in flowing clothes.  This morning we had fun making apple cide...

Strawberry Matcha

Today was our last full day visiting London! The next time we’re here will be to catch our flight home. We had a rather chill day going from one snack to another. We were planning on maybe visiting some museums… but the whole town of London is so beautiful, it’s kind of its own museum.  Cool London buildings Our first treat was something we had back in May… William Curley’s Hot Chocolate. This is the most delicious hot chocolate in the world and I was so happy to have another taste. The Mayan Spiced Hot Chocolate - my absolute favourite We then spent about one hour in Foyles Bookstore, a five story building in central London. It was lots of fun looking through their incredible selection of books… and we only bought a few. Just a few new books… While walking around town we stumbled across a bakery that we loved in Stockholm: Fabrique Bakery. Apparently they opened this London location after being appointed as a supplier to the Royal Court of Sweden. And I can see why, their s...
